For 24 years, the NOIPC had been presented annually. Starting in 2012, NOIPC became a biennial event.

The 3 Finalists will return to New Orleans on January 8, 2017, for Concerto Showcase IX in which each will perform with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Carlos Prieto.

Truly an international competition, the 2016 pianists who competed in the Preliminary/Recorded Round represented the 28 following countries: United States, China, Serbia, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan, Georgia, Ukraine, Italy, Germany, Israel, India, Romania, Russia, Canada, Hungary, Australia, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Slovenia, Cyprus, France, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Brazil, and Syria.

This summer’s competition also includes the 36th annual New Orleans KeyboardFestival (NOKF) and the 18th annual New Orleans Piano Institute (NOPI).  Since 1981, MASNO has offered a weeklong festival featuring a series of master classes, lectures, and recitals. The educational component of the keyboard festival was enhanced in 1989 with the introduction of the New Orleans International Piano Competition (NOIPC) and further enhanced in 1999 with the establishment of the New Orleans Piano Institute.

Serving again as NOPI Directors are Alan Chow, Northwestern University; Igor Resnianski, Westchester University; and Joni Jensen, Tulane University. Additional NOPI faculty members include Constance Carroll, LSU; Kevin Chance, University of Alabama; Frank Heneghan, Ireland; and Shearon Horton, Austin.

NOPI invites talented local, national and international college and high school students to New Orleans for a week of intensive study and performances including individual lessons and master classes with the distinguished NOPI faculty, competition opportunities, and a solo appearance on the Showcase Recital. All of this is within the inspirational context of the biennial New Orleans International Piano Competition and the annual Keyboard Festival. In addition, every year Hall Piano and the Steinway Society of New Orleans in collaboration with the New Orleans Piano Institute presents the NOPI Concerto Competition of which the winner receives a cash prize as well as the opportunity to perform with the New Orleans Civic Symphony.

NOPI master classes and recitals are free and open to the public. A detailed schedule will be available on the website at masno.org in the coming weeks.
